As the summer fast approaches, we all know the temperatures in the Coachella Valley are going to continually rise. The majority of us desert folk choose to avoid going outside as much as possible. However, our dogs still need to go out for exercise. Do we really want them walking on the asphalt which can burn their pads or run in the grass while it is in triple digits? We have to find other methods to keep our pups active. Doggie daycare is a perfect option with indoor play facilities and an outdoor pool.

Starting in May we have opened our pool up for swimming every Tuesday for our large dog swimmers. No matter if you are in Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Indio, Bermuda Dunes, or Coachella bring your dog on down! This will allow your dog to exercise outside and still feel comfortable in the warm weather. However, we want to make sure we do not over do it with our furry pals.

Heat stroke is a hidden danger for our pets during the hot months. Taking dogs to the pool can often hide the risk from most owners. The pool keeps the external temperature of your dog down but if they are actively running around the internal temperature can still sky rocket. This is why we don’t want dogs being too active at the pool for long periods of time. Another thing to keep an eye on while your dog is at the pool is their feet. The longer the dogs paws are in the water the softer their pads will become. This can cause blisters and sores, just like our feet when we have been in the pool for too long.
