With a dog in the house, it’s very likely that you’ve come to terms with certain levels of dog odors. However, some days are worse than others because dogs tend to get into things that smell bad on purpose (naughty, but still cute!).

Here’s how to get rid of pet odor from your house for good:

1. Clean the Curtains, Carpets, Rugs And Anything Else That Applies

With all the hair, dander, and dirt falling off your dog’s coat, you need to vacuum the different elements in the house regularly, especially the floor and furniture. Change or clean your vacuum filter often to keep it functioning at its best.  As for the tiles, you can simply sweep or mop the floor to remove the inanimate allergens your dog might have been dropping around the house.

2. Wash the Dog’s Bed

A dog’s bed is the epicenter of urine, saliva, dander, hair, and dirt, which explains why it smells awful. It’s best to pick a washable bed for your dog so that you can rinse it every few days instead of buying a new bed regularly.

It’s also recommended to invest in an air purifier to eliminate odor by removing bacteria from the air.

3. Neutralize Smelly Furniture with a Deodorizer

Man’s best friend (after a dog, of course) is baking soda that absorbs other odors within the premises. It’s important to deep clean the furniture every once in a while by washing the removable covers, wiping the leather, and scrubbing the mystery stains with baking soda.

Medical Reasons for Dog Odor

If none of these tips tend to cure the pet odor in your home, it may be because your dog is experiencing a bacterial infection on the skin. Secondary yeast inside the ears can also have them smell awful. If you’ve noticed signs of discomfort, changes in coat or skin, or progression in smell, it’s time to schedule a visit to a vet.
